The Government and teatime

With all the work we have planned for the summer and beyond, we thought it was high time to blog about what’s going on at UpMyStreet.

One thing we know is there’s no shortage of bad news for those of you paging through the house price data at the moment (depending on how you look at it). I particularly liked a beer ad from a few weeks ago, launching a new style of extra cold lager, pictured in the iconic pint glass, with the title:

Good News For Homeowners.

… That about sums it up really, although we have been looking hard for the bright side.

But let’s talk about something other than the property market. We’re big fans of ShowUsABetterWay.com - the Government’s campaign to find ideas to improve how public information is communicated. Brainchild of Tom Watson (Minister for Transformational Government) the competition has attracted hundreds of entries - some of which make for painful reading as they are things we have wanted to develop for years. But there’s only so much we can do and we’d love to see these ideas on the web. The winner gets 20K to develop.

If the Government’s initiatives haven’t quite hit the spot, how about taking our tea survey? So far, 55% of the UK (OK perhaps that’s a stretch - the many hundreds of survey respondents) feel that life would be worth living without tea. Londoners are the most ambivalent - over 50% say No. What about you? Thanks for stopping by our blog. Let us know what you’d like to see here!
